PANORAMA REDESIGN
Design Panorama is a space allocated in the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India which talks about the pedagogy of the Institute and all its departments.
As the name suggests, Panorama gives an overall view of the NID's pedagogy, it's history, legacy, about the present disciplines and a lot other activities, that NID is a part of.
It has been an absolute pleasure to work on such a project. This project was not just about redoing a certain space, but also about getting to know our alma mater, about the wonderful stories and amazing work that people have left behind, which are generally missed in the otherwise extremely engaging life at NID.
Process
It all started with forming a team of faculty members and students from varied disciplines, and us coming together to brainstorm new ideas for the space.
The space generally holds various information panels and an exhibition corner to display projects undertaken by NID, its students and alumni.
We decided to go ahead with "Design for Change Making" as the theme and started curating the projects that were supposed to be exhibited and designing the look and feel of the space based around this theme.
The following are parts of the process that took most of our efforts in return for a banding learning.
After days of brainstorming on the curation, the movement plan and finalizing the look and feel of the space, we made several iterations for the main central panel texture, along with the layout and color scheme for the discipline panels.

The new central panel is bigger than the previous one, hence required rethinking of its structure and its installation system.

MATERIAL EXPLORATION
We tried different materials and finish to get the desired look keeping in mind the text that was to be placed accurately on the panel.
Cone of Futures
An infinity mirror is when two or more parallel or nearly parallel mirrors, create a series of smaller and smaller reflections that appear to recede to infinity. One of the major components of the exhibition was the Cone of Futures, that is placed right in front on the central panel. We studied the concept and made prototypes to test it.
A one way mirror film was used with acrylic to create a tunnel of words which was our adaptation of the Cone of Futures in Design.
Typography
Our choice of type was Neue Machina. It is a powerful and meticulously crafted typeface boasting monospace/geometric type features as well as apparent and deep ink traps in its heavier weights. It is inspired by the aesthetics of robotics and machines — a font suited for the future of technology.
The words 'Design Futures' was laser cut in aluminium, then treated with caustic soda for a more lighter color finish.

Display Stands
Design of the display stands for a few specific exhibits based on the existing design language of the space and display stands in it.

Installation
The installation required a lot of planning and people to put everything up.
Final Exhibition
This exhibition focuses on highlighting projects from NID’s ecosystem that demonstrate designs role for social development in India. We look at understanding design as a force of innovation through the lens of intersectionality amongst stakeholders, and some of the core challenges humanity and the world faces today.
The display represents products, services, experiences and systems designed for a wide gamut of sectors by NID graduates, faculty, alumni and associates, who have made a mark in key areas of social development by playing the role of catalysts, and through thought leadership.
